I'm sure you've all been waiting on pins and needles for this post. All one of you. So I'm proud to report that the wait is over. I'm commencing my play by play of our first ever family-of-three vacation.
I love Day 1 of any vacation. The stresses of packing are over, you've already erased any remnants of normal responsibilities from your mind, and you're just excited about what adventures lie ahead. I'm calling our trip the Durango Project. Any time you travel with a toddler for the very first time, it's definitely a project. Experiment. Whatever you will. And our Day 1 began on Saturday, August 25, 2012. Jeremy and I, super geniouses that we are, decided to leave right at Cutler's first nap time. And we thought ourselves quite successful when the following happened within a few minutes of leaving.
What we didn't know, and would soon find out, is that our sleeping beauty doesn't nap well in the car. I believe the snooze fest lasted a whopping 40 minutes, followed by intense aggravation at the fact he was still tired and too constrained to change positions. Nothing, and I mean nothing, would pacify him. So we learned early on that we would have to endure 15 minutes of pure screaming after each vehicular nap.
Fortunately for us, we only traveled 7 hours the first day. Pitstop: Tucumcari, NM.
