A New York Minute

When I learned I'd be traveling to New York for work, I thought it might be fun to drag Jeremy along with me. I had last coerced him to NYC on our first anniversary back in 2006. He surprised himself by having fun. So not much coercion was necessary for this trip. (Though for future reference, never travel by subway with Jeremy if a) it's rush hour and b) you don't exactly know where you're going. You  may never get him back to the city.)

I did have to work most of the time. But what free time we had, we played.

Out on the town. It was raining. And Jeremy hates selfies. In case you couldn't tell.

The company hosting the Users Conference took us to the 9/11 Memorial Museum. Here's the new World Trade Center.

And the memorial fountains. Moving. Beautiful.

Notice the name to the right of my arm. In the middle.
"Her Unborn Child"
I don't know if there will ever be a day that that doesn't make my cry or make me silent.

A reminder of our world pre 9/11.

Steel that stood, despite the odds.

Each blue square is the artist's hand-painted effort to recreate the color of the sky before the attacks. And each square represents and life that was lost that day.

 Steel from the impact zone.

I saw ground zero in 2006, when the sites were still heaps of metal and mess. And now to be able to tour the museum and see the memorials and the remembrances.... well, it's not something I'll ever forget.

On our other free night, Jeremy let me pick the entertainment. And viola.

Don't let him fool you. He was semi-entertained.

Again, he hates selfies. This was all I was gonna get.
I, on the other hand, enjoyed every minute. Every minute. When Valjean sang Bring Him Home, I thought I'd never lose the goosebumps.

Oh! While looking through the playbill, I saw that an old high school friend was in the cast. We had been in show choir together. Do you even know how hard it is to accomplish the trip to Broadway? Kudos, my friend.

And then it was time to go home. Quick trip. Busy trip. But it was a fun New York minute.
